Csaba Kiraly is a senior researcher at FBK CREATE-NET, Trento, Italy, as a member of the OpenIoT team, where his research is focusing on wireless communications and networking protocols, IoT architectures, and edge computing. He was recently the technical coordinator of the H2020 AGILE-IOT project with a total budget of 7 MEUR, coordinating the activities of 16 partners and leading the development of an IoT gateway stack.
Csaba has more than 17 years of professional R&D experience in international research environments, working on large-scale EU funded projects since FP4.
In the past, he was working in research groups at the University of Trento, Rome Tor Vergata, Politecnico di Torino, and Budapest University of Technology and Economics. His research addressed the design and performance evaluation of WSN protocols, virtualization technologies, peer-to-peer video streaming systems, and privacy enhancing technologies.
Csaba received both his PhD and his MSc from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He also holds the Italian associate professor level habilitation, and held courses both at the University of Trento and at Budapest.
He is senior member of IEEE and author of more than 50 scientific publications, several of which received IEEE Best Paper and Best Demo awards from prestigious conferences such as IEEE P2P, LCN, and GLOBECOM. Besides holding talks at numerous scientific conferences, he has also presented his work at industrial events such as EclipseCon Europe and the Linux Foundation’s Open Source Summit Europe. He is also an Eclipse Foundation committer and a member of its IoT workgroup.
