Digital Factory is a broad category of manufacturing with the goal of optimizing concept generation, production, and product transaction. While manufacturing can be defined as the multi-phase process of creating a product out of raw materials, digital manufacturing is a subset that employs computer control and high levels of adaptability. Digital manufacturing aims to take advantage of advanced information and manufacturing technologies to enable flexibility in physical processes to address a dynamic and global market. There is increased workforce training for such flexibility and use of the technology rather than specific tasks as is customary in traditional manufacturing.
FBK CREATE-NET focus within this application domain is on performance monitoring and supply-chain optimisation in Industrial Internet.

Industrial Workflow Optimisation. Provide manufacturing companies with the pulse of the factory, by offering a solution based on fog computing and indoor tracking that streamlines resource utilisation (e.g. energy, space, materials, time) in industrial processes. The activity is performed in collaboration with a major Italian system integrator.

FBK Clean Room 4.0. The Micro Nano characterization and fabrication Facility (MNF) of FBK is composed by Clean Rooms served by a air treatment system whose reliability is critical to guarantee continuity in the production process. A demo environment combining sensor technologies, edge/fog computing and AI techniques has been set up to demonstrate how the application of concepts and methodologies of Predictive Maintenance may enhance quality control of production processes in a real setting.
