Unit focus

The SIRIS Unit is focusing on three major objectives:

• Operations: The maintenance and evolution of the Distributed Virtualized Infrastructure for Next-generation internet Experimentation (DiVINE) platform. DiVINE is designed to offer a cutting-edge facility to experiment Next Generation Internet (NGI) solutions involving multiple technologies (5G, NFV, MEC, Fog Computing, Cloud) in selected application scenarios like Smart Cities, Smart Digital Industry, Health & Well-being and Environment & Energy.

•  Asset Valorization: Leveraging on the strong skills in software development of its team of highly experienced engineers, the SIRIS Unit is actively supporting CREATE-NET Research Units by fostering the impact of their most promising Proof-of-Concepts. The main objective is to sustain researchers in improving the robustness of their PoCs as well as the “market appeal” of the PoCs toward industries and SMEs. Moreover, in collaboration with Hub Innovazione Trentino (HIT) and FBK technology transfer office, SIRIS explores possible exploitations strategies like spin-offs or licensing opportunities in collaboration with companies.

•  Developer Community: Starting 2017, the SIRIS team has kicked-off a community of CREATE-NET active software developers (i) to foster software quality by sharing best practices and common policies as well as (ii) to increase developers satisfactions with internal ad-hoc events and activities. Focus of SIRIS is to support the flourishing of the Developer Community through the organisation of technical trainings on advanced tools & methodologies (project management, messaging systems, code review), hackathons, coding dojos, internal seminars, etc.
